DCG3's Portfolio

Top Projects:

  • David's Key Piano Project
    • I chose this project because it was the only project that I had done this quarter. Even though this was my only project it was still a good one. This project was a continuation of the project that I did last quarter. Besides the songs that I recorded last quarter I have done a remix of the Legend of Zelda theme and memorized how to play the Tetris theme song.
  • David's Key Piano Project
    • I chose this project because I had a lot of fun doing it. This project is where I learned to play piano and then recorded the songs that I learned. I learned to play three main songs, the Tetris theme, the Legend of Zelda theme and My Loving Brother. I also choose this project because I do not have another to choose. This project pushed me to practice everyday and so I it was a good project to use.
  • Computer Art CDW1 DCG3
    • I chose this project because I do not have any other projects that I have made a page for. I am doing a piano project and learning how to play piano. The problem is that I am going to record me playing piano but I am still learning so there is nothing for me to put on it. I have improved on this project of the Scratch art by making the page better by making it more complete. I will have my page for piano by the end of the next marking period so that I can use it and have a new project. I will need to play a song on piano to put on the page so that it is complete and I have something to show that I am making progress.
  • Computer Art CDW1 DCG3
    • This project relates back to when I did a Scratch project for a game. This will be a game as well but it is not like the other one in a lot of ways. This project will be more about the drawing than the actual game. This project also has a lot more documentation than the original project and the project page will look better. That might just be from getting older and understanding that I need to produce better work. The last main thing that is different is I have a partner for this project and do not have to do everything by myself. This is very helpful because it can get very complicated with a lot of things open, like if you are uploading a video to Youtube and drawing while looking at a reference picture and trying to take screen recording.
  • Lego Mindstorm 2.0
    • I have been doing this project for two quarters. I have done many different challenges, some of them easy others not. One challenge that I thought was the most interesting was the create your own challenge. We had been doing challenges in choice hour that were assigned by Mr. Whitmer. Now we got a chance to do our own ideas. I was very excited because I really wanted to build a paper airplane launcher. I had seen some air plane launchers in the store and I thought it would be cool to make it out of Legos. I started creating the robot using to motors on the side and the brick in the back. I made it hand held but then changed it to be mounted on the wrist.
  • Lego Mindstorm 2.0
    • This project was like a continuation of the first Lego Mindstorm. The difference is that it is a choice hour so I am working on the challenges from the choice hour in this class. One of the challenges was to be the fastest to go down a hallway. My robot was a long, fast robot with a high gear ratio. What I took away from this is that having a high gear ratio is good but if the gear ratio is too high, it will not start fast or at all. That is because when gear ratios occur, you sacrifice torque for speed and vice-versa. If there is not enough power, your car will start very slowly then get faster or will not move at all. If it is too low, then it will not go fast enough and you will lose.
  • Universe Sandbox 2 dcg3
    • This project was the first one were I did not have to make it. For example with scratch you made a game, or with WeDo you created a robot. This I had it set up all ready for me. This was helpful so I did not have to figure out a lot of tiny errors. I could just do my project. Not having to create the project let me get a lot more done. There are some down sides, like you can not be super creative. With other projects you could make what ever you wanted or do what ever you wanted.
  • David's Python Programming Project
    • This project took long to get to where it is. I had to get through a lot of simple programming things before I could do any thing cool. I had to learn how to use variables and the print command. Plus, at first I could not even save that held me back a little bit. I have got a lot farther now that I have learned all of those things.
  • WeDo Challenges
    • This is the first project me and Conor finished.
  • Lego mindstorm
    • This is the harder version of wedo. It is a lot of fun. But hard at some times. It is cool.
  • David's Scratch page
    • I have made part of a scratch game I am not done yet. I am half way there. It is hard to build but I got help. I have learned a lot of things about scratch and I hope to continue scratch. In my learning journey.
  • David's Scratch page
    • I chose this project because it is my favorite one. I have put a lot of work into it. I am very proud of my scratching skills. This project shows them. I hope to be the very best that no one ever was.
  • David's Scratch page
    • I chose this project because it did not take me very long to make. I like that because it is still good quality even though it was short. If it was bad quality then I should not like it. It is good to do some thing fast and successful.

Top Reflections:

  • What surprised you? I was surprised by how quickly I was getting through the lessons in Yousician. I was playing a lot of songs each day and I was learning how to switch hands. I did not get to work the Whole time because I ran out of time of free lessons. I will start to do lessons with CDs because of the lesson time.
    • I chose this reflection because it was one of my best ones. This reflection talked about how I had worked well in class and got all of the work I wanted to done. I got so much work done that I had to do extra so that I would not sit there for rest of the class. During this time I realized that I finish before class ends so I have to work more but the CDs take to long to get started so I should do something else. I decided that I should start to learnt he songs that I want to learn after my time on Yousician ends.
  • Why could you not finish your plan? What could you have done to fix it? I could not finish my plan because I did not have Wednesday to work on it. The reason that I could not work on it was because the school had an assembly that day. I could not do anything to change that I did not have Wednesday but I tried to work harder to finish my goal.
    • I chose this reflection because many things that I like about it. This is one of the reflections that I made my own prompt to use in the start of the reflection. This is also one where I used effort and achievement the others do not have any because I did not know that I was suppose to do them. This reflection also has multiple questions to make people start thinking about not just what was wrong but also how to fix it in the future. My reflection mentions the prompt but explains why the second part could not be fixed. One problem is that the last sentence is phrased weirdly. I said finish my goal which can be misunderstood, I should have put achieve my goal.
  • My/our achievement was affected by ... the end of the quater coming up. This caused ... me to have to publish the videos instead doing the Google Slides. I only got one video uploaded because they take a while to make and publish. I made both videos before I uploaded one, to save time I should have made one then uploaded it. Next class I plan to upload the other video.
    • I chose this reflection because it involves how time affects how you can work. If the end of the quarter never came then I would have been able to get more drawing done. This is important because something similar can happen in real life. This reflection also has affect and cause, it is very important to know what caused a problem and not just why the problem is bad. Another thing the reflection has is what I could and could not get done that day.
  • "I/We learned...about the diameter of wheels and gears. I tried to make the top wheel part of my robot with gears instead of the big wheels. The gears are not as big as the wheels so I added another small gear to make them closer. I forgot that using another gear would make the gears turn different directions. I had to change all the gears to make the two turn the same direction. That caused the gears to grind and make a very loud noise. I felt like some thing was wrong to make that grinding sound but I could not tell what. Then after I had Pierce look at it I found out what was wrong. (Tier 2 What you were thinking) It is tier two because I mentioned was I felt on the third line"
    • I chose this reflection because it was one of my favorite problems. I did not know what was wrong with my robot. It would not shoot the paper air plane and the gears made very loud noises. I liked the problem because I had to get others help to fix something I could not. This reflection is also well written in my opinion. It is a tier two of good length and shows my ideas. I tried something new that did not work but it was good to learn from.
  • "I/We think... that I can not improve my robot any more because it is very good. My robot is the fastest and twice as fast as Pierce's robot and he is second. I think that to make it better, I will have to take it apart. I fear that if I do that, I will not be able to get it back the way it was. That is why I am trying to help Jacob Packard with his robot. If I help him, it is almost like a way to see if I can come up with a better robot design. (Tier 2 What you were thinking)"
    • I chose this reflection because it is the longest one. It is long but not too long. It covers all of the major points that need to be covered in a reflection. It pointed how I was trying to help Jacob with his robot. It also shows that it was not completely out of my way to do it. It is good to help others but only to a point. This reflection shows that I passed that point and gained something. The only problem is that he won the race. I am fine with that if he admitted that I helped him. He did do that but he made it sound like I barely helped. This reflection shows the lead up to the big race and how at the big race Jacob won. Also it shows how I helped him even though he made some poor choices. He decided to go against me and hurt my feelings which I will not let happen again. That is why I decided to chose this reflection as the top one.

  • "My/our achievement was affected by ... This caused ... Us over estimating the time. That caused us to not finish the proposal. We should have worked more efficiently. If we did that we could have finished, but me and will both procrastinate and would rather do something fun than work. That was why we did not finish the proposal. (Tier 2 Students assess themselves (or does this go to type 3?)"
    • I chose this reflection because I think it is the best one. It is a fair length and has good points. This is a tier two and could be a tier three. I only have other tier Two, so a tier three is good. It showed what went wrong and why. I could have talked about how we could have fixed it more though. That would have helped make it a tier three.

  • "I/We learned how to make turtles draw things in python.I find that really cool because it is the first step to making a game."
    • I chose this reflection because this is a major break through. This is going to help me get far on the project. I can now make art or game if I learn how. With out knowing this I would not be able to do any of it.

  • "I have not finished disabling it."
    • I chose it because it is the reflection on lego mindstorm. It is the end. Finishing the project. The most important part.

  • Today I made the cat move. I expected to do more. I got the first major step done though.
    • I chose to do this project because it is the first day I programmed. It was a big brake thru. It was a little hard but I had help. Evan was really helpful.

  • This week I/we had a breakthrough when ...
I completed the life system on my scratch project.
    • I chose this post because it is a major breakthrough. With out it the whole project would not work. You would be playing for ever. That is why this life system is so important.

  • "I got a lot farther than expected."
    • I chose this post because I wanted to do less. I got a lot father then expected. I under estimated my self. I should have thought I would have done more.

Top Critiques

  • You could right your challenge in more detail so that everyone can prepare for it the same.
    • I chose this critique because it could improve there project by a lot. The critique is very short so it may not look like it would be good but it makes the person think a lot about how their project will work out. Their project was not very specific about how the challenges would end up being scored. They were working with other people to do their project so they would score how well they did on it. If they did not make specific rules then they would argue about who did it the best.
  • I really like your project, it is a very cool song. To improve your project you could put a recording of you playing the song and play it next to the actual song to see what you need to improve on.
    • I put this critique as my best critique because it has many strong key points. It is kind and does not say that someones project is bad. The critique says that the project is good but it can improve to be even better. I gave a suggestion to make his project better and not just say what I do not like about it so I was giving a positive contribution to the project. I could improved if I found something that was limiting his project so he could remove it.
  • I like your project, I learned a lot about photography. You could add the google slides to your project page and turn the pictures sideways.
    • I chose this critique because I only have one other to choose from, we did not do many critiques this quarter. Even if it was one of my old choices it is still a good critique. It starts off by saying that the project is good, that is important to seem like you are trying to help. If you do not say the project is good then the person may thing that you are a mean person and are just trying to criticize them. If you are nice it will seem like you think their project is good but can be made even better. This critique also has could in it so it is suggestive and not forcing them to change their project. The critique also suggests more than just one way to improve the project.
  • I think that your project will become very cool. It is a very creative idea, you could improve it by going back to old movies.
    • I chose this critique because it expanded Richards project a lot. He was only going to make comments on new movies but that would mean he could only do his project when a new movie came out. That would cause him not to have any thing to do in the days while movies are being made. If he did that he would get a bad grade. I thought that he would do old movie with out my critique but he said he would not. So I suggested that he do old movies to help his project and his grade.
  • "How will some one who has not played the game before know how good each player is? You could put the average stats for your age level.
    • I chose this one because it was the second most updated critique. The reason I did not chose the most recent is because I used that for the last reflection. I remember going about three times in a row. I told my group and they said, "no, it's your turn." So I went back and looked at the dates and it adds up. This one is not all bad though. I stated the problem and presented a solution for it. That is the way critiques are meant to be.
  • "I really like your project but the page is a bit blank. You could add pictures or change the color of the back round to make it more interesting."
    • I chose this critique because it comments on his page and put areas of improvement. I said it was good put blank. I meant he should put more text or color so that it was not all white. Pages do not look good if they are all white
  • "You project is cool, but I had a question about how you are going to share your project to the class. Will you post it on the wiki?"
    • I chose this one because I feel it help the person the most. I need to work on my critiques and I realize that. This one though I fell is the best one I have. It tells him that he has to post it more effectively.
